Living things can’t be controlled in the same way as inert objects. I like when plants laugh at our plans for them. Walk for a couple minutes in Mexico City and it will be obvious why I am so attracted to unwieldy plants. Trees that crack the concrete above them, climbing houseplants that overgrow and take over a whole window, weeds that grow in the cracks of buildings, potted plants that break their pots…
