21. A belated self-portrait

I just printed this picture for my upcoming show at Baxter Street (Opening May 1st! save the date). I have been thinking about the pictures in this show for about a year now and seeing it big stirred feelings in me. I took this picture last summer at the Rockaways, a Saturday early in the morning, before people arrived. Seeing such a normally crowded beach empty inspired me to take some self-portraits. For this one, I envisioned me being slowly covered by water. I did achieve such picture, this other one happened by accident. Waves are unpredictable, one hit me right in the face and the camera was able to capture my surprise. I can still taste the salty water going up my nose and into my mouth.
